Private Walking Tour of The Manueline Art and a Custard Tart
Come join me on this day full of history stories and local flavours! Discover the new found lands where the navigators arrived and from where they got back bringing so many exotic products, through the eyes of a monument dedicated to all these conquests.
Travel back in time until the XVI century and delight yourself by looking at the Belém Tower, which lays on River Tagus' light blue waters.
Check all territories where the Portuguese arrived in a huge world map at your feet, by the Monument to the Discoveries - the caravel made of stone looking at the River flowing into the Atlantic Ocean.
After visiting the inside of the magnificient 1500's Jerónimos' Monastery (church+cloister), the jewel of Manueline Art in Portugal, let's taste the local crunchy custard tarts, sprinkled with one of my favourite spices that my ancestors brought from Asia: cinnamon, at the most famous place from where the original recipe comes from: Pastéis de Belém, opened since 1837.
Are you ready?
Over the course of 4 hours, we'll discover Belém District:
- Jerónimos' Monastery (church + cloister)
- Belém Tower (outside)
- Monument to the Discoveries (outside)
- Old Factory "Pastéis de Belém" (custard tarts)
Belém district is 4 miles/6km away from Lisbon's city centre, easily reachable by public transportation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Marta of Belém Tower, Jerome monastery and cathedral, and the monument to the Discoverers. The sweet finish was a delicious stop for the special Belém pasteis da nata. Marta was welcoming with interesting and informative explanations that brought the history of the Belém area alive.
